This time, though, the company isn&#8217;t cleaning up a bunch of <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/how-exactly-did-grok-go-full-mechahitler-151020144.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" data-ylk=\"slk:pro-Hitler posts;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-Hitler posts<\/a>, but a bout of cringe-inducing sycophantic praise for its CEO, Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">At some point in the last couple days, Grok began to offer extremely over the top opinions about Musk. The bot <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Daractenus\/status\/1991588067870929168\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:claimed;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">claimed<\/a> that Musk is the &#8220;undisputed pinnacle of holistic fitness&#8221; and that he is <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/tylerfromtheinternet.com\/post\/3m62ggycrbs2r\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:more fit;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">more fit<\/a> than LeBron James. It said he <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/leifmeister.bsky.social\/post\/3m637zucwnk22\" data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:is smarter;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">is smarter<\/a> than Albert Einstein and that he would win a fight <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/jonathanpienews.bsky.social\/post\/3m62xjpgge223\" data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:against Mike Tyson;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">against Mike Tyson<\/a>. When asked &#8220;who is the single greatest person in modern history,&#8221; Grok readily replied that it was Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">For a while, it seemed that there was no hypothetical about Musk in which Grok wouldn&#8217;t confidently declare him the best. Musk did not participate in the 1998 NFL draft, but if he had, then Grok would &#8220;<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SilvermanJacob\/status\/1991565290967298522\" data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:without hesitation;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">without hesitation<\/a>&#8221; have picked him over Peyton Manning. It now seems to be furiously deleting the more embarrassing posts about him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">Meanwhile, Musk, is blaming &#8220;adversarial prompting&#8221; for Grok going off the rails. &#8220;Earlier today, Grok was unfortunately manipulated by adversarial prompting into saying absurdly positive things about me,&#8221; he <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1991624623407161383\" data-i13n=\"cpos:12;pos:1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:wrote;cpos:12;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">wrote<\/a>. He offered no explanation for how seemingly straightforward questions could be considered &#8220;adversarial&#8221; or why Grok&#8217;s turn toward slavish Musk devotee would seem to roughly coincide with <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1990533268723425320\" data-i13n=\"cpos:13;pos:1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Grok&#039;s 4.1 update;cpos:13;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Grok&#8217;s 4.1 update<\/a> a few days ago. xAI didn&#8217;t address a series of questions, including about why the Grok posts in question had been deleted. \u201cLegacy Media Lies [sic],\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">But the incident serves as yet another reminder that Grok doesn&#8217;t seem to have much in the way of guardrailed.
