But now the company has <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/gemini\/thread\/396052272\/here%E2%80%99s-an-update-on-our-work-to-upgrade-mobile-assistant-devices-to-gemini\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:announced;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">announced<\/a> that it needs a bit more time to make its AI assistant the new default digital helper for most of its users. Google said that it&#8217;s adjusting its previously announced timeline to &#8220;make sure [it delivers] a seamless transition&#8221; and that updates to convert Assistant to Gemini on Android devices will continue into the next year. The company also said that it&#8217;s sharing more details in the &#8220;coming months,&#8221; so it&#8217;s possible that the transition will go past early 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">Assistant&#8217;s retirement was pretty much expected the moment Google launched Gemini and started giving it Assistant&#8217;s capabilities, such as the ability to control smart devices connected to your phone. It launched the Pixel 9 Series with Gemini as the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/gemini-googles-ai-powered-chatbot-is-the-default-assistant-on-pixel-9-phones-170027220.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" data-ylk=\"slk:default assistant;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">default assistant<\/a> back in 2024. The company has also been putting Gemini in all of its products and previously said that it plans to upgrade all &#8220;tablets, cars and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches&#8221; with the AI-powered chatbot.
