But if there was a feel-good lockdown story, it was the perfectly timed <a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2020-03-16-animal-crossing-new-horizons-review-switch.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:arrival;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">arrival<\/a> of <em>Animal Crossing: New Horizons<\/em>, which allowed friends who could no longer meet up IRL to do so virtually on their carefully pruned islands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">The game will almost certainly never be as popular as it was back then again, but Nintendo is hoping a good chunk of lapsed islanders will return for its latest DLC drop, which has arrived a day earlier than planned. As spotted by <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/surprise-animal-crossing-new-horizons-free-30-update-for-switch-releases-early\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Eurogamer;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link\"><em><\/em><\/a>, the free <em>Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 <\/em>update is available to download now and, as previously <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/gaming\/nintendo\/a-switch-2-edition-of-animal-crossing-new-horizons-will-land-on-january-15-135000347.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:announced;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>, brings a host of new features to the cozy life sim, including a brand new resort hotel on the pier that you can help decorate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">There are new items and quality-of-life additions too, as well as the ability to build fresh islands with your friends and family in the \u201cSlumber Island\u201d dream world. All you need to do is go to the <em>New Horizons <\/em>game icon on your Switch\u2019s home screen and download the software update.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">Nintendo also announced last year that <em>New Horizons <\/em>would be coming to Switch 2 on January 15, improving the visuals, unlocking mouse controls and GameChat functionality, and expanding the online multiplayer capacity from eight players to 12. As of now, the Switch 2 edition of the game remains locked, so you\u2019ll be stuck with the standard Switch version until tomorrow.
