One of\u00a0Crothall\u2019s\u00a0longest-running associates recently celebrated her 60<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0work anniversary\u00a0in the healthcare industry.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n To celebrate this milestone, her friends and co-workers presented\u00a0the 80-year-old\u00a0with a certificate and a\u00a0plaque, and\u00a0treated her to dinner at a local restaurant. She also received a proclamation from Jasper Mayor Gary Cowen, recognizing her service to the community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cCarolyn Mixon has devoted 60 years to the healthcare profession, demonstrating exceptional service,\u00a0leadership, and care to countless patients and families throughout our community,\u201d the proclamation read.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n How It Began<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Carolyn recalls beginning work as a housekeeper at age\u00a020.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cMy\u00a0<\/span>cousin was the only housekeeper at the time.\u00a0I started out working part-time, and when she needed time off, I became a full-time employee.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Mixon was featured as a \u201cHealthcare Hero\u201d in\u00a0a local magazine\u00a0for her work\u00a0during the COVID-19 pandemic. She\u00a0says that\u00a0working in the healthcare industry all these years has been a blessing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cServing within healthcare gives me great pleasure to be able to help every patient that enters the doors of Walker Baptist,\u201d she said in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Being in the healthcare environment allows me to provide a sense of hope and faith to the patients. Choosing to work in healthcare has allowed me to fulfill my civic duty within the\u00a0Walker County community. <\/em><\/p>\n -Carolyn Mixon<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Her supervisor, Shanta Henderson, says\u00a0<\/span>Carolyn oversees the team when she is on vacation or needed elsewhere, and that her\u00a0<\/span>work ethic and her ability to treat every patient\u00a0with care are the reasons for her success.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cShe has worked hard and worked her way up,\u00a0from housekeeper to operations manager,\u201d says\u00a0Henderson.\u00a0\u201d\u00a0She\u00a0is relentless, she\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0know how to stop\u00a0working, and\u00a0will\u00a0keep going and going.\u00a0She\u2019s\u00a0definitely the\u00a0Energizer Bunny.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Carolyn\u00a0enjoys several aspects of her responsibilities, though her favorite is\u00a0helping new housekeepers learn the\u00a0correct way to clean patient rooms and other areas of the hospital from the start.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cShe\u00a0<\/span>does\u00a0a\u00a0phenomenal\u00a0job\u00a0training\u00a0our new associates,\u201d says Henderson. \u201cOur team leads\u00a0would definitely say\u00a0she drives them hard, but most importantly, she\u00a0is there for them.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Carolyn is heavily involved with her church and is well known for her generosity, donating money to St. Jude\u2019s Children\u2019s Hospital and other nonprofit organizations. \u201cIf you call her on the phone, she\u2019s going to donate something,\u201d says Henderson.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Carolyn attributes her career longevity to\u00a0Crothall\u00a0and\u00a0remains\u00a0dedicated to helping\u00a0patients and visitors at the hospital.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cCrothall\u00a0is an amazing company and has been\u00a0very good\u00a0to me and the team. Carolyn Mixon,\u00a0Environmental Services operations manager at\u00a0Walker\u00a0Baptist\u00a0Medical Center in Jasper, Alabama,\u00a0began working\u00a0as a housekeeper\u00a0in 1965. She started her\u00a0career at\u00a0the former\u00a0Peoples Hospital\u00a0and\u00a0moved to Walker\u00a0Baptist\u00a0when it\u00a0opened\u00a0in 1980.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n
