But can streaming also provide a launching pad for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.streamingmedia.com\/Articles\/Post\/Blog\/Why-Smarter-Production-Will-Power-Niche-Sports-Streaming-Growth---and-Higher-Rights-Value-171078.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"niche sports streaming growth\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">niche events<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and middle- and lower-tier leagues with passionate pockets of fans clustered by location or affinity? <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.streamingmedia.com\/Articles\/Editorial\/Featured-Articles\/The-State-of-Streaming-Monetization-2026-173815.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"state of streaming monetization\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FAST<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is proving the perfect platform for heightening access, awareness, and profitability for lower-tier leagues like college athletics and grassroots motor sports. Niche doesn\u2019t always mean small, attests <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/davidstelnik\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"FloSports\u2019 VP of business development Dave Stelnik\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FloSports\u2019 VP of business development Dave Stelnik<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/chrispfaff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Chris Pfaff Tech Media\u2019s Chris Pfaff\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chris Pfaff Tech Media\u2019s Chris Pfaff<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.streamingmedia.com\/Articles\/News\/Online-Video-News\/ICYMI-Streaming-Media-Connect-May-2026-174839.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Streaming Media Connect 2026\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Streaming Media Connect 2026<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>FloSports and FAST<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pfaff says, \u201cOne of the interesting things Flo[Sports] is doing recently that seems to be taking off is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flocollege.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"FloCollege\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FloCollege<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d He asks Stelnik to talk about how the company is pulling people in with live events and how it\u2019s capitalizing on them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stelnik shares, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flosports.tv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"FloSports\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FloSports<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been around for 20 years, and we\u2019re a digital media company that consolidates fragmented, underserved sports into one platform. That\u2019s what we do. And what we kind of see ourselves as is the operating system for these underserved sports where we can handle everything from technology, production, distribution, data. We\u2019re the largest sports streamer in the United States. We have over 50,000 live sports events a year. Every day we\u2019re working with sports that are traditionally underserved. So FAST coming along is kind of a match made in heaven.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Other 99%<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stelnik continues, \u201cI would push back on the idea that we often hear about niche or underserved. We call it the other 99%. [T]hese niche sports have tremendous communities and fan bases behind them, tremendous. It\u2019s just they\u2019ve never had access to watch these sports in certain ways, or the economics have never made sense to bring these sports to wider audiences.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s the example of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chl.ca\/lhjmq\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cHistorically the only people that would\u2019ve had access to watch or even care about these teams are small towns in Quebec, Newfoundland, the Maritimes. These are very small, close-knit communities that care deeply about these teams,\u201d Stelnik explains. In about 2 years, \u201cwe\u2019ve gone from a league that\u2019s had almost no exposure outside their local community to being on the front page of Amazon Prime Video, via our FAST channels, next to the NFL.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stelnik expands on this point: \u201cSo the sea change is in terms of bringing live sports, for all types of sports, all types of leagues; this is not just the major leagues. This has really caught on fire, and I think it\u2019s a really good product-market fit, so to speak, for what the sports fans and the market is demanding.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pfaff names other so-called niche sports such as cycling and sailing. \u201cAny of those things that\u2014as you said, the other 99%\u2014we don\u2019t need to necessarily be Balkanized in terms of where the major sports leagues are, but even tertiary or second or third tier, you can carry,\u201d he notes. \u201cNow you can stream it at scale, and I don\u2019t know all the numbers that you want to talk about, but it seems like you keep adding. I mean, NASCAR is doing well for you too, right?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWell, what I can say is we\u2019re profitable,\u201d Stelnik allows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThat\u2019s what I wanted to hear,\u201d Pfaff says, joking that haters should listen closely to the full panel to get some good advice.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Serving College Sports Audiences<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stelnik brings the conversation back to FloCollege. \u201cWhen most sports fans or people think about college sports, they\u2019re thinking <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secsports.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"SEC sports\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SEC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, they\u2019re thinking D-I basketball. We\u2019ve really had a huge amount of growth,\u201d he shares. \u201cWe\u2019re now up to 20 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"NCAA\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NCAA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conferences, mostly in Division II and Division III. So really in that underserved market, these conferences have really passionate fan bases.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The economics allows FloSports to produce high-quality events for a variety of sports that reach anyone who has an affinity for these leagues and conferences, he says. \u201cWe can actually go out and take top 25 Division II football, which in some instances is produced at a level better than some D-I, and we can really highlight these. They might have been buried in ESPN+ historically or really hard to find or not streamed at all. And now we\u2019re able to really invest in these conferences and drive viewership and engagement with these communities, with these teams.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Niche Doesn\u2019t Necessarily Mean Small<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Close partnership with the conferences and leagues is essential in underserved sports, Stelnik asserts. \u201cBut a lot of people think of us in terms of niche. We get [called] niche a lot, but you mentioned NASCAR, [which isn\u2019t]. So we really have grown up the right food chain in the last few years. We\u2019re now in motor sports; we are the essential destination in grassroots motor sports. And that includes everything from NASCAR, grassroots, all the way down to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lucasdirt.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Lucas Oil Late Model\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lucas Oil Late Model<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
